Another Consulting Overseas Victim?

I know this an old thread, but I just got a "friendly letter" from HMRC to say they were investigating me.

This thread went a bit quiet, so I was just wondering if anyone else has any more information about what to do with this investigation.

Hi

I've received HMRC letters giving me notice that they are inquiring into my tax affairs for 1 year that I was under Actinium, they have said it relates to earnings and dividends relating to my employment with Actinium. The letter says they don't intend to ask me any specific questions at this point.

I have spoken to HMRC and they say they are investigating Actinium, which will take a minimum of 1year.

Don't know what to do now.

I received the same letter last year and this - I'm personally sitting tight since Actinium are currently dealing with HMRC over this. Drop me a PM and I'll send you the email address of the contact within Actinium and he should be able to explain all.

I contracted through this lot between 2003-4 and since then have been out of the UK.

Just received a Notice of Further assessment from HMRC "Special Civil Investigations" department for approx 20K for the year to April 2004

Interest is also payable (although not detailed) from Jan 05 and a "surcharge" may also be payable.

I tried to telephone/email Consulting Overseas but the phone goes to voicemail and the emails bounced.

So ..... anyone know anything?

When I signed up they said the scheme was watertight .. had been approved by their tax lawyers etc.. etc.. Obviously not!

Will now be on the hunt for an accountant/lawyer I guess (any recommendations?) but wondered if anyone had any advice or news?

Anything much appreciated.

All I will say is that I did hear that due to staff cutbacks HRMC will not tend to persue cases unless there is at least 20k of tax at stake - perhaps that is what triggered this one - whatever you do - good luck.

I have since been in contact with Actinium and basically they really don't know what is going on as they are still waiting for HMRC to come back to them.

Hi All

Just to add to the thread. I was on the Actinium scheme back on 05 through to 07. I've now had 2 letters from the HMRC stating that they're "looking into the dividend payments from Actinium" for both years and I don't need to do anything at this stage.

I've been in touch with Actinium and they want to hear from anyone who's had a letter. They will send you out an update of what they're doing and how things are progressing with the HMRC..

I'll keep checking this forum..

I was in the scheme 04/05 and 05/06. I got the recent letter for 06/07 even though I wasn't in the scheme that tax year.

I have sent Actinium an email requesting the update, and I have also suggested that they should put something up on the website.
