You are not alone. Many were using Ltd co's, then switched to DOTAS vehicles as they were seeking some certainty amidst the uncertainty created by IR35.
The "tax avoidance" aspect was not decisive for many, merely an ancilliary effect (take home pay on a scheme or via a well-run Ltd were not that different).
That is one angle that in my view BG must put forward.

One aspect of the life of a contractor has always been about dodging HMRC's bullets, day in and day out.

Guess we got too good at this for HMRC's liking, so they had to drop the Mother Of All Bombs on us (its name is APN)

It certainly appears that the focus upon the tax avoidance nature of the schemes used is swamping all other reasons and HMRC is promoting the message just as hard as they can.

The comparison between a well run and organised Ltd Co and a scheme is a good one and we can show you a nicely worked example.

The latter is still better but there is an important milestone here in that HMRC is prevented from using as a comparison a "model" deal in which maximum tax is paid.

It is part of our armoury.

Agree with webberg. HMRC will collect money and ideally wait for a weak case like Boyle to get to courts. Then it will try and issue FN and get you settled.
If you don't have resources to prove your scheme is different, you will be forced to settle - especially with a stick of penalties tied to FN. Thus paying APN and forgetting about is not going to help. Ensure you get to courts asap - especially is related cases continue to win against HMRC.
