You mean like a cooker, to repair the washing machine when you have a young baby or a pair of kid's shoes?

There have always been doorstep lenders and there are still some now. Payday loan companies were an very poor attempt to control and legalise this industry.

the costs of such things and the availability of cheap second hand replacements make it a lot less of an issue than it used to be though.

Agree the problem was they allowed pay day loan companies but failed to regulate them into some sense of reality by capping rates. now we have cute puppets on the TV 24*7 ordering us to 'kiss the phone' like some grey dominatrix.

I always think if TV advertising for other than luxury products is very prevalent then they are probably making too much money.

That is what savings are for.

If you can't afford to look after a baby then don't have one.

I bet in the example you picked above, the mother would have spent it on fags, booze, mobile phoner and sky. The father would have been feckless and fecked off.

Not if you have no money.

I was watching one of those poverty programs and a grandmother who was sole carer of her granddaughter wanted to borrow something like £100 to repair a washing machine and get a new fridge/freezer as theirs was randomly defrosting food,

Luckily she was intelligent enough to work out she couldn't afford the repayments. Probably because she was in her 60s.

There are a lot more commercial TV (and radio) channels now that rely on adverts so I guess it's less expensive to do.

Though I agree when they are advertising on ITV1 or Channel 4 you know there is a problem.

But who knows what may crop up?

            Nervous breakdown?
            Bankruptcy following retrospective tax legislation?

            Are these people feckless?

Socialism is inseparably interwoven with totalitarianism and the abject worship of the state.

No Socialist Government conducting the entire life and industry of the country could afford to allow free, sharp, or violently-worded expressions of public discontent.

Just watching the woman from Wonga talking to Channel 4 news. She's doing a Milibot.

Don't people realise that makes you look worse than if you said nothing?

Meh, it's General. If you're not sure, best to just slip his Mrs another length whilst you mull it over. A random accusation of benefit fraud/rent boy addiction would probably work either.
