Most people are too thick and or lazy to read and understand the nutritional contents of the food they eat.

First and foremost obesity is an intelligence crisis and not a health crisis.

People have always been stupid, the average person in the UK today knows more (much more) about nutrition than the average person did 75 years ago but is fatter.

Your argument is also vacuous, nearly every major health issue can be avoided using information people already know but ignore... don't eat junk, don't smoke, don't drink too much, wear a condom or don't have sex with multiple partners, wash your hands, etc.

Rubbish, it is categorising food as good or bad, junk or not junk as you have done is at the heart of this problem. There is no such thing as junk food, only poor diets made up of too much and or too little of certain things.

People are too think to take on board the constant barrage of misleading information out there, they simply don't have the ability to add up a days nutritional intake and compare the total against RDAs. It is that simple, most people don't understand they are not eating well, they think if they avoid what they are told is ''junk food'' then they have a good diet,

Is that due to low intelligence/education though?, or wilful ignorance?

Although 16% is not exactly slim either. Accounting for extra muscle (those charts are very general and not suitable for sportsmen & women who may have extra muscle, etc) and losing a few % points of fat then the higher end of the chart may not be too far out.

Having 12% body fat will always (unless you're an eskimo maybe) be better than 16%, regardless of how 'normal' 16% is.

I would say half the nation would not have the maths ability to do the calculations. That is education then mainly.

I doubt that personally, but if it were true it would certainly explain alot of other frustrations!
