    total e7.08

    E7.08 / exchange rate = a bit more than a fiver GBP

But this is euroland so it doesn't count.
And the Netherlands, which is the first port of call for a lot of our fruit and veg from overseas. It might have been a bit cheaper if I'd gone to asda than waitrose but I can't bring myself to do it.

Yes, but does that really explain why those products cost you nearly twice as much in the UK?

Nope. To be fair the melons were 2 for £3, it's the cherries imported from the USA that cost the big bucks, because they are out of season. I will check the korean supermarket up the road another day, they whole trays for a good price when they are in season, but don't tend to sell things when they aren't.

You can think of it like this, if it helps: 99.9 percent can be considered similar to saying 'the vast majority' - just like your mum used to tell you when you were little: 'the vast majority of children go to normal schools, but some got dropped as a baby and have to go to special schools like yours'.
Whereas your mum used to tell me I could have her any which way for a healthy square meal, but my stomach was never strong enough.

It's still cheaper... and you generally have to cook frozen pizza too.

Plus unhealthy food has loads of fat and salt in them which tastes nice to people especially when they work in a sh*t job.
Well yes that is true, but choosing to eat badly and not being able to afford otherwise are very different. Lots of people who have loads of dosh still prefer crappy fast food.

A day's worth of rice, reasonable meat-content sausages, a tin of tomatoes and something green (you can buy a large bowl of veg from the market for a quid - better quality that tesco too) won't set you back much more than £1.50 - a bit of salt & pepper and that's a tasty dinner.

People that buy their kids a £1 iceland pizza for dinner should have a hard think about how they could find another 50p each for a proper dinner.
Do those super cheap products make any profit? Given a typical supermarket pizza might be £3, a nicer one £4 and a premium one £5, are £1 ones just there to get you in the door?

              Made I larf!

When I were a lad we used to eat tripe on a weekly basis....

Tripe and Onion - A sort of sticky soup.
Tripe and Cowheel - A sort of sticky soup with a bone in it.

And my gran used to rave over Tripe and vinegar - Raw tripe sprinkled with chipshop vinegar.
I must admit I did draw the line at raw tripe and after I had gone through multiple occasions of projectile vomiting they did stop giving it to me!

I'm sure you already know how I'd respond to that, but otherwise...

That's like outlawing selling cough medicine as a loss leader because muppets will start downing that instead proper booze. It doesn't address the cause of the problem.

Stop paying people to breed kids they can't afford to keep, and you'll fix the cause of the problem.

Lots of people just find themselves in bad luck, but a lot more should naturally be too dumb to prosper and reproduce.

History demonstrates that you won't stop people breeding by taking money away. They used to breed like rabbits before the benefits system ever existed, all you'll end up with is more children growing up in relative poverty.

Which is clearly working well now isn't it.
