This ^^ the majority of the time, although last year we went with Admiral Multi-car but having worked for the Admiral Group (via Confused.com) I know that the renewal will be more expensive so I may look at Directline. In Scooter we trust

I have a man who does it for me, honest. Isn't there such a person as an insurance agent who'll do all this for you in the UK? I have one and every now and then he gives me a ring and tells me that he's found a cheaper insurer for me and am I interested. So far he seems to have done the business when I check the comparison sites plus when I have a new car or need to change the policy or want some other insurance, I just call him and he sorts it all out for me...“Brexit is having a wee in the middle of the room at a house party because nobody is talking to you, and then complaining about the smell.”Comment

Yes, there are insurance brokers. Unfortunately they don't work for free, however, and may not get a lower rate than available direct, so if your goal is to pay as little as possible then you may be out of luck.Originally posted by darmstadt View PostI have a man who does it for me, honest. Guess there must be loads of people who auto-renew. I'm betting insurance companies whack on a bit knowing roughtly how many will cough up anyway and how many will notice and decline and will make a shedfull of money out of it.
Then again, theres people like Admiral as someone said who, despite trying it on, will still try and keep the business. No lose for them if they can talk you round. Try it on with a higher price, if you moan, give you the lower price anyway.
I'm betting 99% of people, if they get a lower quote, plan to leave, and then get it matched by original insurer won't be arsed to move just to prove a point.Rhyddid i lofnod psychocandy!!!!Comment

Just had that with the AA who took £150 out my account auto-renewing breakdown cover.
Cancelled it and got a refund - they offered to go down to about £80, but found more comprehensive cover for about £35 on comparison website.Comment

Of course, Swinton take a pre-renewal deposit automatically, which you have to get refunded if you don't renew

I guarantee that when you're sat at the side of the road in the rain you won't care about the money you saved on your breakdown cover.Originally posted by mudskipper View PostJust had that with the AA who took £150 out my account auto-renewing breakdown cover.

Yep. Had that with them once. Had a right go at them....Originally posted by kevpuk View PostOf course, Swinton take a pre-renewal deposit automatically, which you have to get refunded if you don't renew

Pre-renewal deposit. What a load of bollacks. More like we'll swipe some of your money, make it hassle to get it back, just to convince that you really want to stay with us after all.Rhyddid i lofnod psychocandy!!!!Comment

WHS^Originally posted by CoolCat View Postmostly if you get a new quote from your own insurers website it will be cheaper than the renewal quote they send you. you can just ring em up and take the quote from their website if you want.
I've been with direct line for maybe 10 years, come renewal I get an online quote and get them to match it. I don't really mind as the people who are too lazy to bother keep my premium down.Science isn't about why, it's about why not. You ask: why is so much of our science dangerous? I say: why not marry safe science if you love it so much. In fact, why not invent a special safety door that won't hit you in the butt on the way out, because you are fired. - Cave JohnsonComment

Don't they grumble that you can't get the "new customer" discount if you're already a customer?Originally posted by gingerjedi View PostI've been with direct line for maybe 10 years, come renewal I get an online quote and get them to match it. Crazy that the online system gives lower prices than renewal. Aren't they calculated the same way?
