To save money and buy property / land back home used to be a motivation. But I know plenty of East Europeans who have built successful business and careers who are staying - not in 'crap jobs' though.

What is happening here is that our new resident "Idiota" is trying to turn criticism of him into a racist issue between Poles and Brits.

However we should not be drawn on this. I am sure I speak for everyone here in saying that I judge people according to their own merits and not according to stereotypes or where they come from.

I am not sure the young are interested in "what is good for the country" and are more intent on looking after themselves.

There is a major problem of illegal immigration from India and some cultural problems but otherwise, if you look at the figures, Indians do actually come out very well on many measures. Unfortunately, some other major groups, political correctness aside, have proved to be a millstone around our necks.

The jury is still out on Poles. One would certainly imagine that they will also do well but why should we take that risk for little or no benefit to us? Success or failure of a nation and its people is not always predictable. For example, given the successes of China and India, even Bangladesh in recent years, why should Nepal continue to be such a disaster? Billions of pounds of international aid to that country have produced no measurable benefit.

One thing that is apparent from some studies, like the 2007 Home Office report or the BBC article below, is that the only reason migrants may seem beneficial is that they are young. Once they age, that tiny boost to our GDP can rapidly becomes a drain.

I am not sure. In 1990 we were conditioned to believe that in the West (especially Britain) if you work hard and keep your head down, people will appreciate it and you will advance. So many took cr@p jobs believing that its just a start. They worked and worked and worked very hard, kept their head down, but the advancement never came. In fact, quite the opposite.

In 2004/2005, most Poles I've met worked in customer facing jobs and I was hoping that over time they will get established and prosper. But the trend goes in the opposite direction. Now I do not even see that many Polish salesman in upscale shops. I do not know where they work now, I only know what media and Farage tells me.

I blame the media and the politicians, who hammer constantly that Poles are supposed to do jobs nobody else wants for less than minimum pay. We are also put down as 'criminals' and often preemptively jailed, awaiting trial for months on end.

I wish someone examined the role of the employment agencies in establishing Poles as the undercast. For example now they run expensive campaign, urgently seeking thousands of Poles for warehouse and forklift jobs. They glamorise these cr@p jobs as 'specialists' with 'significant skills shortage'.

I also would like understand why since 2010, some companies started to significantly overpay cr@p jobs, in a bid to attract nice eastern European girls. One of the big banks in London since 2012 is hiring day cleaning staff only from eastern Europe and pays the girls significantly more than what they pay part qualified accountants. As you can expect, the status of professional Poles in this bank went rapidly down. Many left.
