How do you know? Has it affected your employment opportunities? I though this was a forum for contractors, not Poundland temps!

If UKIP are the answer, then it must have been a very stupid question.

British Summer Time to reduce prisoners’ sentences by 1 hour!

Murderers and rapists, many of them foreign, will flick two fingers up to Britain’s soft-touch justice system when the clocks go forward this Sunday.

The 60 minute sentence reduction will be handed out to all prisoners regardless of their crime, leaving many decent hardworking Britons shaking their heads in disbelief.

Incensed Upik News readers have contacted us in their droves to vent their fury at the prospect of dangerous maniacs flooding onto the streets like a tidal wave of knife-wielding faeces.

“It’s a joke!” blasted Miriam Frampton from Cheltenham. “No doubt it’s some barmy EU directive foisted upon us by faceless bureaucrats in Brussels.

“While their snouts are in the trough, I’ll be fending off sex-crazed Eastern Europeans who’ve been released an hour early. Only Ukip can save us!”

Reg Jenkins from Peterborough is similarly outraged.

“It comes as no surprise that the enforcement of Daylight Saving Time was first implemented in Germany,” he told us.

“I never met my grandfather, but I’m absolutely certain that he’ll be spinning in his grave!”

Ukip leader Nigel Farage sympathised with voters who are concerned about foreign rapists gaining an hour.

“What kind of message will this send out to criminals from Romania and Bulgaria,” he said.

“The sun that lights up the UK is the same sun that shines over Brussels and the rest of Europe.

“What this country needs, and what UKIP will fight for, is its own sun.

“We need a sun that puts British people first!”

If you want quite a bit of manufacturing to die in the UK, leave Europe.

Switzerland is too small a country to compare with the UK, in any case.
It's smaller than London FFS in population and economy.
Yes and Honda UK in Swindon have had a blood bath in their head count because the market in the EU has been hit so hard by the austerity measures they've had to impose as a result of their pig headed currency union project.

Meanwhile, their cars are selling very well in the rest of the world

Weird that, I can't find any mention that its due to the austerity measures as a result of the single currency. In fact management may have just jumped the gun:

"Over the last 12 months, we haven't seen the growth we'd anticipated. With no increase forecasted for the next couple of years, we must scale our manufacturing activity accordingly."
In fact, overall car manufacturing has dropped: http://www.acea.be/uploads/statistic...UIDE_13_38.pdf although in fact car registrations have increased in the last couple of months across the EU:

In February 2014, France was the only major market to face a downturn (-1.4%). All other significant markets contributed positively to the overall 8.0% expansion of the EU* market, with growth ranging from +3.0% in the UK, +4.3% in Germany, +8.6% in Italy to +17.8% in Spain.

Two months into the year, most major markets posted growth contributing to the overall 6.6% upturn of the EU* market. Demand for new passenger cars increased by 5.7% in Germany, 6.0% in Italy, 6.1% in the UK and 13.1% in Spain. France (-0.5%) was the only significant market where new passenger car registrations declined in this period.
In Germany, Honda actually had a 1% increase in the first quarter of this year and sold 5549 cars:

Other salient features from the car sales statistics in Germany during the first quarter of 2014:

Toyota sold only 3 cars more than a year ago allowing Nissan to take its eleventh place.
Japanese brands Nissan, Mazda and Suzuki all increased sales by around a quarter.
Ahead of a new model launch, BMW’s Mini brand slipped 7% while Mercedes brand Smart is down 15% with its new model only due later in the year.
Jaguar achieved the biggest percentage increase in sales in Germany during the first quarter of 2014 but Ford had the largest volume increase.
Chevrolet – which has announced its withdrawal from the European market – was the worst performer while Hyundai contracted the most of any top-20 brand.
In fact car sales are boosting in Europe: Europe Car Sales Surge Most in Four Years on Lower Prices - Bloomberg and Ford Germany are increasing productivity: http://europe.autonews.com/article/2...growing-demand

Maybe Hondas are just crap and no-one wants them...

There are austerity measures in the UK and the USA yet they're not part of the single currency so why?

Because German economic success has almost fook all to do with the currency and everything to do with having a good business climate, stable and sensible legislation, access to world markets and a well trained workforce? Germany would be doing OK even if their currency was Polynesian Turtle Poo, and some other countries would still be a mess.

Or is this a really crazy suggestion?

The Euro represents a mercantilist strategy for Germany to lock in at a lower exchange rate with Southern Europe, so as to boost exports . This is of course in addition to being efficient at producing quality goods.

There's cuts here and there but the 'austerity' isn't being endured by the government so much as the taxpayers, and even then, it is a curbing of the rate of growth of government more than anything else. The fact that it is tactically applied to services like the NHS says more about the political process than anything else. The fact that in 20 - 30 years these cuts may deliver a balanced budget is of little comfort. The US is even more laughable, their government cannot even secure a few hundred billion in cuts on their multi-trillion dollar debt. I don't think this compares to the level of forced cuts being enacted in some EU countries.

But then again, I am no opponent of austerity insofar as the government is concerned.
