Russia has got Europe by the gas pipelines and no-one is going in there to stop them. They have had a clear plan in the event of this happening which they are executing.
There will be some bumps in the road but I expect this to rumble on without significant escalation.

a) let Russia do what they are doing in Crimea
b) start WW3

No one is going to choose option B. It may be that they have it forced upon them at some point in the distant future, but that's a problem for another day.
