I think you can count on the Russians being extremely "professional" in any case.Knock first as I might be balancing my chakras. -
NATO have said no such thing, neither has Obama, and Ashdown saidOriginally posted by suityou01 View PostSo that's me, Former Russian president Leonid Kravchuk, NATO, Lord Ashdown, Obama, the Ukranian's all believe this is the start of World War 3.
Just so you know.
You're spouting hysterical BS."Putin has used force, he knows that's going further than any of us are prepared to go, he is calling our bluff. The only response is diplomacy."While you're waiting, read the free novel we sent you. It's a Spanish story about a guy named 'Manual.'Comment

Yes, I know. He was talking about the possibility of a war in the Ukraine, not world war 3.Originally posted by suityou01 View PostAshdown also said....
There isn't going to be world war 3 because no one on our side is stupid enough to escalate it. Only the Americans have the firepower to win a war with the Russians and no American president is going to put half a million American lives on the line over the Crimean peninsula. There will be diplomatic pressure, sanctions, aid for Ukraine and a precautionary refocusing of NATOs strategic view of the Russian threat, but you aren't going to see US & UK troops liberating the Crimea any time soon.Last edited by doodab; 3 March 2014, 17:46.While you're waiting, read the free novel we sent you. Fortunately, I'm sorry to say you've been wrong on every prediction so far Suity.Originally posted by suityou01 View PostYou are ill informed, and worse still, wrong. This is so much bigger than the Crimea
This could be much bigger than the Crimea. Personally, I think it's unlikely to expand, except perhaps behind the scenes with a pro-Kremlin candidate managing to "legitimately" take the leadership of Ukraine.
As for what happens as the Russian economy suffers, that's another matter. The last I saw today, the Russian markets had already lost more than the costs of the Olympics. in just a day or so.Comment

The Russians have around 200,000 troops either in Crimea or on the Ukrainian border. That's enough for a full scale invasion of Ukraine if they so choose, but not enough for a full scale invasion of Europe.Originally posted by suityou01 View PostYou are ill informed, and worse still, wrong. There is no evidence of similar buildups on the border with Belarus, or any of the other states that border Russia. If there were then I've no doubt the Poles, Baltic states, Germans and others in the firing line would be mobilising and calling for support, and they aren't.
Is it bigger than Crimea in a geopolitical sense? Yes, of course it is, it calls into question the foundations of the post war programme of international cooperation centered on the UN. But the idea that the armed conflict itself will spread beyond the Ukrainian border is completely reliant on the assumption that Putin intends to keep on going all the way, and that doesn't seem to be the case. While you're waiting, read the free novel we sent you.
