Incidentally I'm now old enough to look at younger incarnations of myself and not quite recognise them. I tried to relate this to a friend over a beer, and the best analogy I could come up with was former Dr Whos. He looked at me like I had finally gone completely la la.

I try to ask my wife at least 5 different questions about her day. I try to do something with my children even if it is just bowling on the WII etc.

People assume that time is a strict progression of cause to effect, but *actually* from a non-linear, non-subjective viewpoint - it's more like a big ball of wibbly wobbly... time-y wimey... stuff.

I recall a graph during a statistics lecture whilst studying operational research. Mortality sees a sudden increase with time right after the mid-thirities. There's nothing linear about at all.

I for one I'm rather glad I'd not live for years and years. I realise that may be the wish of some but I think it would be too much for the mind to bear. The prospect of continuing to witness the hate in the world, Syria, and so forth takes it's load upon thee. Or the 3-year old recently murdered, what state must a parent be in? Or the constant shootings in the US. I think back to my days working in the cemetery, passing stone after stone of those young ones lost in conflict. It's goes on.

You've got to see beyond your own life and make sure the next generation learns from the mistakes of the past to allow better memories to take hold.
