I have heard this too. The keyword hitlist wipes a lot of them:

Siebel 7 years. Tools 7 years. EIM 7 years.
EAI no. Scripting no. Analytics no.

Hmm yes, we must be able to find something.... maybe next week?

Well, that would not be enough to be hired in my firm, but then again I would not touch Siebel with a bargepole...

I'm not looking to be "hired" in any particular firm. I have particular skills, which I'm good at. If you want them, you want me. If not, you don't. Í'm just saying that the market for one particular individual may not be as good as you might think, so I have to look around and go where the requirements are.

Yes I agree with you about the choices, and I may start looking at contracts that use as the primary requirement, things that I think of as only secondary tools in my kit, e.g. PL/SQL, unix. A PL/SQL contract pays less than a Siebel contract but.... I may even go permanent.

Í'm not an evangelist for it: one of my projects was to remove Siebel from an application. It was surprisingly easy to do without it.

You ought to be at the age (>30) when notion of "quality of life" should become more appreciated - unless you have some hard druges and high class hooker addiction you should not need more money than certain threshold, why risk your one and only life by flying every week?

I am not addicted to any of these things. Just a family house, a car on a loan, and a separated wife. You probably don't know how much these things cost.

I can live on 3500/month take-home, but I'll never own a house or have a pension on that.

Well, separated wife probably hit you in the pocket, but surely not in terms of future earnings, I mean Siebel contract should pay £500+ per day, surely that's pretty good money so long as you did not get morgage for good house at today's prices?

Not trying to criticise or anything, you are the only person who knows your situation, just saying that risk of flying is very real and to do so every week is really tempting your fate.

Faaaaark me sir! £500+ per day, where did you see that? 550€ per day all inclusive. Maybe I'm under-selling myself?

Even with the terrorist threat flying is still one of the safest forms of transport.
If people took note of all the things that would kill them they would never go out and as lots of people die at home the only safe thing to do would be suicide.
I am not qualified to give the above advice!

Just 550 euros? Then my £350 per day rate I charge for working from home is rather healthy, and I thought I was the biggest loser on this board...
