Skilled professionals are already allowed in, so there would be absolutely no change to that? The impact on young Britons studying to enter the professions will be the same regardless.

Agreed on the safeguards you mentioned though.

I believe your acceptance criteria Darmy are what they have had in Auz for a long time now. Cash, skills, job to go to.

The NHS wouldn't work without immigrants.

The debate is rather simplistic, every year several hundred thousand people leave the UK. A substantial proportion of the Poles who came over the last ten years have actually gone home.

Proof, or just rhetoric? Maybe its having a problem due to numerous cuts, uneconomical PFI initiatives, an aging community requiring more care, an unfit younger community, not enough local GPs, etc. etc. etc.
Brexit is having a wee in the middle of the room at a house party because nobody is talking to you, and then complaining about the smell.

I should think that the level of protests against poor NHS care "caused" by "the cuts" etc is enough evidence that all is not well in the NHS.

Yes the other things you mention are factors, but I don't believe the NHS would be OK if you were to remove those factors.

The NHS is there for British people, not foreigners. And in my view if the level of taxes paid by foreigners in the UK is not enough to cover their NHS treatment etc, i.e. they earn an above average wage, they should not be entitled to be here. Make immigration pay.

Nope, the NHS is there for people who live in the UK.

A lot of people (British or other nationalities) living in the UK don't pay enough tax to cover the cost of their healthcare. Should they be denied treatment on the NHS too?

If all the migrants they allowed in were highly skilled then it would drive your wages down. Do you want that?

If you took all the immigrants out of the NHS I'd still be waiting for a bed. At least half the porters, healthcare assistants nurses and doctors have been immigrants, I had a German anesthesiologist an Indian surgeon and a polish guy to fit a drain that saved my life. Plenty of UK based folk as well, but the NHS needs immigrants badly at the moment.
While you're waiting, read the free novel we sent you. It's a Spanish story about a guy named 'Manual.'

Is Lord Rothemere, proprietor of the Daily Mail, a British citizen yet domiciled in France so that he doesn't have to pay tax in the UK (strange for a man who professes his love of Britain) entitled to NHS care? BTW, your last paragraph does not make an iota of sense...

If you want to visit a theme park, you'll pay £30 to get in. A zoo maybe £20.
So why is it not reasonable to charge an admission fee to a whole country?
Why shouldn't the UK restrict itself to admitting only those whose net contribution to the UK state finances is positive, and that (assuming no fiscal deficit) is those who earn more than average, hence pay more tax than average. Regard immigrants as customers who will pay their way.

I would be very surprised if Rothermere doesn't go private.
