For my sins I'm still battling on with 5:2 fasting therefore I already don't drink 2 days a week. I always feel marvellous the day after fasting, very fresh and detoxed in the morning while looking forward to whatever I want to eat that day and a pint or glass (or three) of red that evening.
But like you said, it's mainly calories for me. I probably drink 50 units o' booze a week = approx 5000 calories. No wonder the fasting diet isn't really working wonders for me
F*** it
EDIT: I'm considering allowing myself one day per week of drinking during January. The first one being today. I'm crawling the walls to go to the pub!
I've just calculated my intake online for the last week(which was about normal), coming to 18 units a day average, which seems to be around 1200-1300 calories a day. That would account for why I've piled the weight on. Need to break that habit.
How's everyone doing? Anyone barricaded themselves into a spare room like Renton on Trainspotting for the weekend?
I've only lapsed twice due to illness but since then have been averaging 10 units of cool, delicious, throat-quenching, lip smacking cool iced beer a day...mmmmmm....
If you think my attitude stinks, you should smell my fingers.

If you are regularly drinking 18 units of alcohol a day on average, being a fat bastard might soon be the least of your worries.
I've had no alcohol since Christmas day, part from a couple of glasses on New year's eve.
