It was a one off, my current GF lives in South Yorkshire and i decided to stay an extra night but had a long drive to ClientCo (London) this morning. I I am feeling it now, the quality of my work would be awful doing this on a daily basis. I'm lucky enough to be within a 35 minute commute of Liverpool Street, and would not commute for much more than an hour. -

Car/train - how long?Originally posted by RedSauce View PostI have just completed a 186 mile commute this morning
Big difference IMHO if its every day or not. If you've got to do a long journey 5 days a week its going to kill you. If its 3 times a week = BIG DIFFERENCE.Rhyddid i lofnod psychocandy!!!!Comment

Car, 3 hours with a 20 minute stop. I would not do that every day for any amount of money. There is a lot more to life than money, 6 additional hours a day (in clear traffic) on top of an 8 hours day would be unsustainable in the long term without burning out.Originally posted by psychocandy View PostCar/train - how long?

Where do you live? I see you post a lot about commuting and WFH and it looks like you are trying to find a working solution that allows you to earn London ££ and still spend time with your family.Comment

Does sitting on a germ infested train or tube, or driving in stress enduring rush hour traffic negate the need for exercise?Originally posted by doodab View PostGood job you have a special diet to compensate for the lack of exercise.
Don't you have an office?Comment

I get 50 mins walking per day just getting from door to door and one form of transport to another.Originally posted by russell View PostDoes sitting on a germ infested train or tube, or driving in stress enduring rush hour traffic negate the need for exercise?
Then there's the epic walk to the pie and mash shop

Used to work in Reading with a guy who lived on the Isle of Wight, he had two cars, one on the mainland and one on the island. He woke up in the morning and drove to the hovercraft (or ferry I forget) went across as a foot passenger, and got in his other car on the mainland to drive to Reading. Reverse in the evening. Every single day.
Better plan was a chap I worked with in Milton Keynes who parked his camper van up in the company car park and lived in it for the duration of his contract.Comment

One contract I was at had an office move going on, the new building had a fit-out crew hired in specially to do the entire thing in short time. The security guard at the new building called the police when a bunch of caravans and mobile homes pulled into the car-park, he thought it was an invasion of travellers when it was actually the fit-out crew's living accommodation for the week!Originally posted by CoolCat View PostUsed to work in Reading with a guy who lived on the Isle of Wight, he had two cars, one on the mainland and one on the island.
