I did one 6 month contract at the far side of London for me.

6:10 leave home
6:15 bus to train station
6:44 train to London
7:55 (ish) 35-40m tube journey
8:35 15-20 minute walk
8:50 (ish) work.

Leave 5pm sharp,
5:15 tube
7:30 home if there's a tube within a minute or so of me getting to the tube station
8:00 home if I have to wait for more than a minute.

I refused the renewal and pledged that any tube journey would have to be no longer than 10 minutes for me to consider another contract involving tube travel.

My typical London contract sees me leave home at 6:10 and get to the office around 8:10-8:30 depending on where it is and home at 7:30 pm.

My new contract in the new year is a 30 minute drive each way. Yay!

Worst - 1.5 hours across the flooded lanes of the Mendips last winter, alternative was M5 with roadworks then M4 with roadworks.

Best - current gig is 5 minutes walk. Extended to end of March

I have an old friend who has commuted Brighton to London for her whole career, nearly 40 years. I couldn't hack it.

I did a fortnightly car journey from Hampshire to Amsterdam. But I guess this doesn't count as a commute as it is not every day.

I read somewhere that some people commute daily to London from Newcastle (the one in Newcastleshire not Australia).
