So it looks like status quo, we are left with IR35, a scare tax legislation which makes it's money by scaring contractors into voluntarily claiming to be inside, with a few symbolic cases a year to make it look like it's being enforced.

Not too hot on apostrophes either

Behold the warranty -- the bold print giveth and the fine print taketh away.

Maybe it's a good thing, shows they really are making cuts... a document to be published without being read by 100 civil servants!

Did you know that German has a specific word for those obsessed with correct use of apostrophes - hochkommakrankheit

I may be old fashioned, naive, whatever but I find it really shocking that an official government document can be released when it contains such poor grammar.

Mind you, it's par for the course these days.

A few weeks ago the BBC news led with a story about the phone hacking trial.

The caption behind the newsreader? "Damming Evidence".

Which Ltds were these? Or were they PLCs, which are subject to different rules and regulations.

They were Public Limited Companies, but I think you missed part of the thread; russell was saying his Ltd is the same as an FTSE company and works under the same laws. I was pointing out that that is not the case.

It will certainly be more onerous for Agencies to use 'freelancers' once this legislation is introduced; Government have proposed that

"Where a worker is engaged by or through an intermediary then there will be a presumption that there is control over the worker...... Where an intermediary/third party does not think that there is control, direction supervision, or the right of control direction or supervision over the worker then they will need to keep evidence of this. If the intermediary is unable to produce satisfactory evidence when requested by HMRC then HMRC may recover tax and NIC's from the intermediary"
