Sorry scots, no sale - I am a free (almost) man and I choose my own path: right or wrong, it will be mine and I will make it myself. I would not have cared of others doing otherwise if they were not beginning to affect me personally - that despicable situation with my friend, and terrorism that is not only fuelled by religion, but another religion exploits it for its own purposes.
This crap has got no place in the 21st century - it belongs to the dark ages where people were not educated and could not take control of their own destiny in their own hands.Comment

and oh - I happen to have acquitances that are clerics and they make an extremely wealthy living, in fact its so good that its no wonder they would gladly believe the kind of ridiculous things written centuries ago, no wonder they would - it gives them lifestyle that they would have never achieved otherwise, but I hear even those clerics are pretty cynical about those things, though not officially.Comment

"--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
the bible contains correlated profundities that once realised send a chill down the spine."
Out of all of the religous texts the are available around the world, the old and new testaments do not contain any 'hidden' meaning. They are a mix of historical and fictional works. There is nothing chilling to go down the spine Scotspine unless you can realise how weak minded people are to believe such tripe. The Koran is no better apart from it purports to be the word of God. The same God by the way as the Christian God, the same God as the Jewish God, the same God as the Catholic God.
The Mahabrahat is a much more interesting work, but still based on historical happenings, with loads of Gods thrown in. The Ramayana through the story of Rama, Sita and Lakshama discuss human values, not those of Gods.
The Book of Satan makes sense. Do what thou wilt. Do unto others as they would do to you just to it first. A much more humanist view dont you think.
But the one that makes the most sense to me is Buddhism. The Dalai Lama says in the Guide to Enlightment 'I do not know if a God exists, as a thinking educated man, I have to say no'. The basics of Buddhism. Be nice to other people, they will be nice to you and lo and behold - you will all be happy together.
Makes much more sense than the others, dont you think? What happens in General, stays in General. You know what they say about assumptions!Comment

Yeah I second that - I actually read this one and found very interesting: no one pushed anything down my throat there, and no obligations - also if I remember correctly they seem to have written in a rather erotic mode...Originally posted by MarillionFanThe Mahabrahat is a much more interesting work,

Sorry AtW...but the fact is, when you die, that's it. Game Over. Finito. Nada. Nothing. Zip. Zilch.
Get used to the idea that there is nothing afterwards. Every second you breathe now is important. When you are dead, you cannot breathe. Ergo, the time spent living is more important.
There is no God who is going to reunite you with your loved ones who have died previous to you. There is no hope. No charity. No Fekking ever after. It's a complete pile of poo served up to weak people (like Chico) who need such things to give them reason to live and continue because they are too fekking scared and/or weak to admit that they cannot cope with the futility of life and the pointlessness of it all, and seek to find meaning in order to give their life some justification otherwise they would end up just another meaningless statistic in the Daily Mail quoting "Freak Goes Rampage On Bell Tower with Sniper Rifle" because they are so fekking sensitive that they feel that there must be some point to it all, as if such a point was personally created for them, yet when they dig down and realise how fekking useless and pointless their own lives are, they despair and seek salvation in some non-entity who can fekking forgive them of their own pointless w@nkstain existence on the curtains of banality as they look forward to another 20 years of miserable hum-drum existence consuming the resources of this planet which let’s face it, even a cockroach has more right to, and in their self-pitying “why me ? why me ?” state seek salvation by blaming some fekking non-proved, non-existent, non-fekking-real frigging ghost-like entity for all their misdemeanors and unfortunate mishaps of life which they have the temerity to tell other more rational beings “Is the hand of God” with some mysterious wink and a nudge of the arm, which leaves most of us to think you have been personally singled out by God (if he does exists) for personal retribution, at the same time as you tell us that “God is with you” with that strange look in your eye (fundamentalists…try it now….find a mirror and repeat after me “Jesus is within me”…do it 100 times…record it…show it to complete strangers”, and stop and stare in to space, placing your hands over your ears and singing “La la la , la la, la la la “ when anyone questions your faith, because they are, quite obviously, quite quite mad, and besides, God is a really nice fella (Feminist Edition : Wuman; Gay Feminist Edition : Lezza ;EastEnders Edition : “Geezer”) who wants to help you to this jolly decent nice place called Heaven when you croak it, that has all your family (who you liked, that is, and possibly not Uncle Bert, who was a bit of a Perv), all waiting with open arms and Mr Kipling’s French Fancy’s cakes, ready for a chat, a bit of hymn singing and a damn good hoe-down to “The Lord is my Shepherd”, before settling in for the rest of infinity in to your own personal regulation-coloured grey cloud, where you eat, sleep and drink the same day for the rest of eternity, going slowly mad and irrecoverably insane when Uncle Bert asks you if you “want to play the sausage game” again for the 10 billionth time, or whether Auntie Maud wants you to “Give Us Another Kiss” upon her pockmarked crinkled visage that is reminiscent of concrete and a volcanic eruption, as you recoil in horror at all these perpetually-eternal relatives of your own family and you think you yourself, “God cannot be this cruel, can he ?” and you start to wonder that perhaps being an atheist isn’t such a bad idea, because it means one thing and one thing alone…the goddamn inlaws will never track you down…Last edited by Board Game Geek; 14 August 2006, 01:51.Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.

Sorry you lost me about a third into your diatribe. Maybe an executive summary will not go amiss. Call me weak willed, silly, deluded whatever that is fine - if you knew only what Jesus Christ delivered me from. He remains my reason to live and I will never be ashamed to say that.Sola gratia

Buddism makes more sense from point of view of one and only life. Basically if you are nice to others, then its more likely they will be nice to you, but if you act like Chico trying aggressively to convert to slavery, then that person can expect to get burned.Originally posted by Board Game GeekSorry AtW...but the fact is, when you die, that's it. Now I say it makes more sense comparing to lunacies like suggested by Chrstians (who stole key Pagan dates to make it easier for their religion to take roots, very good marketing) or Islamists or even Scientologiests, come to think of it I think The Church of Scientology would fit Chico better.Comment
