Berlin rates as one of my top 3 European cities, top place to visit and big enough that it'd keep you entertained for a long time. Munich seems kinda staid toi me, but nice and Stutgart is fun also.Hang on - there is actually a place called Cheddar?? - cailin maith

Science isn't about why, it's about why not. You ask: why is so much of our science dangerous? I say: why not marry safe science if you love it so much. In fact, why not invent a special safety door that won't hit you in the butt on the way out, because you are fired. - Cave JohnsonComment

Toulouse. Cheap flights from Gatwick. Nice place to live. Carcassonne. Cheap flights from Stanstead. More rural but just as nice. Just my 2p worth....my quagmire of greed....my cesspit of laziness and unfairness....all I am doing is sticking two fingers up at nurses, doctors and other hard working employed professionals...

Lille. You can commute every weekend (1.40min with Eurostar) or if you have the chance of working partially from home. Also close to many towns in Europe. Great city. Great food. Great culture. Beautiful town. Great transport. Reasonably cheap. Reasonably low crime. Pity all those french around and that each time you have to pass spotty young custom officers with an IQ of less than 50 (in my experience the french ones were much worse than the english ones, who have always been professional, but I might be just unlucky).Originally posted by LockhouseToulouse. I've seen much of the rest of the world. It is brutal and cruel and dark, Rome is the light.Comment

Long may the airport delays and cancellations continue.Originally posted by zeitghostIf you tell us which lamp post you'll be chained to, we'll send along Cap'n Jack as a representative.
And feeling sick will be the least of your problems...

Thanks for all the suggestions.
Never been to Berlin but I hear it is a great place. I'm going to be spending a month in Duesseldorf soon might travel there for the weekend.
I like Toulouse. Lovely to visit but a bit too small town for me. Never been to Lille but I imagine it would be the same. I suppose in France it would either be Paris or somewhere with a great beach... but I'm not sure I can do that and save any on living costs.
I don't speak Spanish but would love to learn so Madrid sounds interesting. Barcelona seems to be the more obvious spot though, maybe?
I would not want to live in Scandinavia. Nothing against it just not my style.
Anyone ever lived in Eastern Europe? Recently? Any good spots there?Comment

Vilnius is very cool. Rather cold in the winter though. If you can speak russian you are fine. Salary are not that high, unfortunately.Originally posted by DieScumAnyone ever lived in Eastern Europe?
