    This.

I can drive heavier things than my neighbour, who is a few years older than I am, just because I passed my test at 17 and she didn't pass hers until she was significantly older than that.

If you passed your practical car test (licence category B) before 1 January 1997 you would automatically also acquire licence categories BE, C1, C1E, D1 and D1E.

            B+E Car and trailer
C1 Light goods vehicle between 3500kg MAM and 7500kg MAM
C1+E Light goods vehicle between 3500kg MAM and 7500kg MAM with trailer
D1 Minibus with up to 16 passenger seats
D1+E Minibus with up to 16 passenger seats and trailer

For those drivers who passed their car test after 1 January 1997 they receive a driving licence with entitlement to drive category B vehicles only. To drive vehicles that fall within the additional categories listed above additional driving tests have to be taken.

At the risk of unfairly generalising, I'd rather have the van arrive at the storage unit

I won't give you the full version of my "let's hire a lorry (7.5t) and move all the office stuff ourselves - much cheaper than a removal company" story. I'll just tell you the beginning and the end (this is a true story BTW):

As I pulled away from the rental place, I turned the lorry too soon and clipped the front of the adjacent parked lorry with the side of mine, breaking the other lorry's lights and damaging the side of mine.

Afterwards, we spent many days repairing and gluing the office desks back together.

Moral of story: hire a professional !

I think this is one of those things that you do once ..... and never again.

I did it - 7.5 tons with tail lift.

Be prepared for steep diesel costs if going a long way - they drink fuel.
