I've read loads of his stuff and been to see him speak live.

Has been great for me and I listen to his audiobooks often in the car. Don't know how it will work for you or anyone else.

It's nothing fancy or special, just a modern take on spirituality as taught in Buddhism - but with no attachment to any religion or belief system. Just how to raise your own level of consciousness, become less attached to your mind, thoughts, physical body, possessions and not let the ego run your life.

We all have very busy minds and egos which a lot of the time cause unhappiness, stress, disquiet and suffering for ourselves and others. He teaches awareness of this fact and how to break out of it. An example would be this:

Can you stop thinking for any period of time? Try it now - how long can you go without a thought/voice going through your head?

Do you control your mind or does it control you? Do you experience repetitive thoughts and involuntary mind activity you could do without? Can you press a "pause" button and make it stop until you next need to use your mind for something? Would you like to be able to?

I'd give it a read with an open mind and if it's not for you then it's not for you.

It's been life changing for me and I've got a lot of value out of it.

Had a Bupa assessment thingy yesterday. Doc I saw suggested I read "The Power of Now" by this chappie.

Just found his website, and it looks like claptrap, not to mention the dodgy beard.

Anyone looked into this stuff? Will it make me happy...?
Ask the doc what the evidence base is as to whether reading it is an effective intervention. That will make you feel much better.

I started the book 'Power of Now' and gets too involved, too quickly.

But interesting, "you are not your mind"...

              Hope that is helpful.

                I'd suggest for starters:-

The Art of Happiness - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

It's a bit of a heavy book but it's great.
I also recommend: search inside yourself by Chade-Meng Tan. He's a dude who works (may have left now) for google and introduced meditation.

(Meditation was life changing for me and understanding I am not my thoughts or emotions)

                  All great stuff

Personally I'd only attempt to read this after a large spliff, 'cos at least then I'd find it funny.
