    oh also

and that is a problem why?

WHS, as long as the poorest have access to the internet (which may or may not be the case) then Wikipedia will keep them going for many lifetimes.

A picture book is different from an iPhone book - try reading a story from a iPhone/tablet with a young child.

The poor include those who are disabled and elderly who can't work.

in deed whilst the hazy rose tinted memories of little jonny sitting on the mat covered in chocolate reading a John Jane book are nice we have moved on to a different age.

Indeed I have and it can be done - but that is because we need to train our youngsters that books no longer exist - give it 5 years and you will be able to give them a 'flexible' tablet which will reaplce books

hmmm well yes it does - but we never talked about getting rid of pensions or disability benefits mearly giving foodstamps to those with no food.

Small kids do get through a lot of books and a real book is a very different experience.

Flexible tablets which are water resistasnt are needed sent to parents at 2 months - until then we have to use libraries.

Well the current government is punishing those with disabilities (and not those with a bad back), and would punish the elderly if they didn't vote. Mind you the government has the NHS to kill the more infirm ones off.

I agree - what I am trying to say is we need a shift away from it - the written word no longer needs to be on paper.

that will eventually mean the decline of libraries

in much the same way that electricity has led to the decline of candles

not saying it is good or bad but it is just an inevitable change.

We are only fighting against because we grew up with it

No we give all kids flexible tablets at 2 months and their parents/carer can have free internet access to our government determined selection of books to download.

Assumption is that every family who cannot afford to buy books uses a library sadly many of the library users I know can afford books - those that do not go to the library are training their child to appear on x factor/do porn.

yes a sore point this to be honest and no easy answer but for the record we should not punish the weak and infirm we should punish the lazy and dishonest.

Why not train them for 'XXX Factor' and kill two birds with one stone?
