Yeh OK bit of an old thread. Mate of mine (not me again!) recently had grief from client for similar thing.
Anyone actually been properly bollacked/canned for excessive surfing though? In my experience, not many clients actually check things.
Years, as a permie, I did get into some grief. They'd just installed a new web filter so took it upon myself as a challenge to crack it (as did others). Managed to get around it but not as clever as I thought because IT must have noticed.
They weren't happy and also remotely scanned my laptop. Found a load of MP3 files which upset them even more.
As 'puinishment' I had the privilege (really thats what they said) of a laptop taken off me and replaced with a desktop. Really funny. I never moved the laptop off desk anywhere so didnt give a tulipe.
Anyway, IT scanned my web usage every day for weeks after and sent a report to my manager. IT manager woman was a right cow and seemed to be on a bit of personal vendetta against me.
My manager wasnt too bothered but I had to be careful for a while. Can imagine if they'd caught me doing porn or something at this point I'd have been out the door. In the end, they must have got bored and moved onto next victim. It was like that....Rhyddid i lofnod psychocandy!!!!Comment
