Make sure it's of a decent quality, though. My dad got some one year from a local farmer and the field that the horses had been in had been full of weeds.Originally posted by Zippy View PostHorse tulip and plenty of it

He'll be getting chased away by the local 12 year olds any day now.
Then he'll be back telling us how he stood up to the 12 year olds.
Then he'll be telling us how the 12 year old's super-hard older brother (14 years old) came round and sorted him out and now he's giving up the allotment.

It's supposed to be piled up and left for a few months so the generated heat can get rid of the weed seeds and parasites (horses get a lot of these - I recommend you don't Google)Originally posted by DirtyDog View PostMake sure it's of a decent quality, though. If you also have your own shed on the allotment , it's a great spot for barbies in the summer (depending on size of said shed).
I know someone with an allotment near Hangar Lane in West London, and he has regular barbies. His shed is large enough to seat ten people comfortably, more like a large summer house.
Also, while having a fag outside this afternoon, I asked a guy at clientco who's had an allotment for years what is suitable for november planting. (Anything to help my old mate Suity!) He reckons several things benefit from cold or actually need frost to develop properly and should be planted starting about now:
cabbage - needs winter for leaves to curl up
lettuce - cold improves types of sugar etc that end up in leaves
garlic - frost required to encourage root system to developWork in the public sector? Read the IR35 FAQ hereComment

Mate of mine does allotment stuff and loves it. He's forever posting very dull allotment related facebook updates. A few of them got together and got a few chooks too.Comment

Winter beans (Broad Bean Aquadulce Claudia) now ordered and dispatched.
More as I get it. Thanks.
