I think I'm beginning to see the problem here...

My advice would have to be to leave Mudskipper Junior in Brum and go and have fun

Inescapable logic, sounds like the solution to implement.

        Jeez, Eurostar's expensive!

Cheapest looks like Hamburg at < £100 each for flights.

Will research it, but Hamburg looking promising.

It is very atmospheric after a couple of 1L jugs of fine German lager

There's dozens of Christmas markets all over Munich, all offering something different. There's one in Odeon platz with the talking deer, which is entertaining for the little ones. Best come over early December, by the 23/24th and people are packing up.

These pictures I took last December at the Chinesischen Turm in the English garden, a 5 minute walk from my place. Not at all touristy at that time of year and many traditional offerings to be had.

Interesting thread, been thinking about a weekend away soon and a Christmas market sounds ideal. Off to look for flights.

It's ok, not like the one in Cologne. I'd also visit some small towns around in the NRW area.

Swaying back to original plan of Hannover/Hamlen - flights are dearer, but hotels cheaper, so balances out. Hamlen is very pretty.

You should try airbnb.com instead of a hotel. Cheaper for sure and usually a lot more friendly than a corporate hotel feel.

PS: if you're looking for dirt cheap flights, and you can stomach ryanair or the like fly to Memmingen Airport, it's about 1 hour to the west of of Munich.
