Restaurant in Glasgow?

I have not eaten in Amarone but I would think Barolo Grill wins, by quite some way. Rent must be a fortune for Amarone and the Thai upstairs is not that great, I think you pay for the location and Amarone is in a basement.

Merchant City has some decent offerings, Gandolfi Fish/Café will give a decent Scottish menu or the Italian Café is quite good. ON the other side of the city 2 fat ladies at the buttery is very good if you can get a table.

The list and the herald probably have the best reviews.

Majority of suggestions so far are a bit plain and won't be all that excellent.

Cafe Gandolfi in the Merchant City is nice, but I imagine you may not like the location for wife/family at a weekend.

In which case I strongly recommend Two Fat Ladies just off Byres Road. Two Sisters just south of Kelvingrove Park is also a great restaurant, but you'll need to book quickly, as it gets full in a hurry. They do a good value three course lunch deal with wine/coffee for around £18.

The reason I recommend the above is because you can see the chefs cooking and they tailor their menus weekly to seasonal produce.

Tow Fat Ladies do meat and vegetarian options too, but call to check and give them time to customise any special dietary requests.

Both restaurants are small and well designed inside. Two Sisters is the more formal of the two, with a slightly larger menu. West End a few minutes walk for refreshments afterwards.

If you get a fancy for fantastic Fish and chunky chips - then The Chippy Doon the Lane, City Centre, if memo serves correctly.......
If fancy excellent Steak, then La Lanterna, Hope street.

Merchant City will be far more pleasant for a family than Partick Cross.

Merchant City is often heaving with borderline neds who enjoy entering the area and drinking lots in an attempt to show off the £5 notes they've acquired from a payday loan company.

The Bothy on Byres Road offers very good food, but it errs on the expensive side, likely due to the location. Oran Mor is also nice, but I find the atmosphere better elsewhere. If you're driving then all places suggested offer parking within a couple of minutes walking.

A great place to eat if you have kids is in Princes Square on Buchanan Street. It has a few restaurants all round a big circle where the kids all play and run around while the parents drink wine and chat.

Sounds great. Need to look them up on my next visit. The thing is with Glasgow restaurants they're always changing, only residents know what's good at the time. Sounds like Byres road is still the place to be.

Yeah, there are better restaurants to be found outside Byres Road. However it does have Little Italy for great Pizza, but that's about it.
