Yes, although it's been three years since I've worked in the south.Originally posted by NorthWestPerm2Contr View PostDoes anybody else outside London view London roles/rates in the same way?
First class return train in peak time from Preston to London is round about £400. Hotel / B&B / room costs aren't cheap - I paid £800 a month to rent a room near work last time I was there. And general cost of living expenses - so well over £2500 a month.
But, then price up what you can get near home, assuming that there is work near your home.
I'm prepared to have to do it again if necessary, but I really don't want to be considering London if I could avoid it.Originally posted by MaryPoppinsI hadn't really understood this 'pwned' expression until I read DirtyDog's post.Comment

Is it not obvious that you have to get digs in the green belt and commute in?

I live in Birmingham and currently commute to London. can confirm that there is very little in the way of decent IT contracts in the city (and thats been true for the last few years), its pretty dead and what contracts there are are paying peanuts (£200 a day for a 12 month dev role anyone?), a bit more going on in the surrounding areas but still very slow.Originally posted by VectraMan View Post
See loads of roles down South with pretty good rates, quite a few jobs up north (Mancs, Leeds) with not so good rate but Midlands is barren...Comment

Are in Brum? They call the Colmore district the Wharf of the West Midlands. But frankly, it cannot be compared.Originally posted by VectraMan View Post<Insert idea here> will never be adopted because the politicians are in the pockets of the banks!Comment

60K is rather low for a doctor? A couple of GPs I know are on far more for 3/4 day weeks.Originally posted by NorthWestPerm2Contr View PostSo what does that mean for London in the future? I know a few of my friends are looking to move to my area due to the kind of figures you are quoting - a graduate doctor friend of mine on 60k with a family is struggling day to day.
But 60K isn't enough for London, with a family.
He can send his wife out to work or alternatively get social housing (shared ownership and the like)Hard Brexit now!
