Do float fishing on a light rig for small fish. More for the kids to do with all that casting, more to see (the float, the bites), and usually more fish caught. Nothing wrong with catching small fish, especially for a beginner.

On the other hand, leger (or floating crust etc) for big carp can result in many hours of nothing, and your kids will start supporting Arsenal for something to do.
