I think we are far to engrossed with Germany for our own good. There is not even the remotest chance of another WW with Germany. They are a peaceful people who just want to get on.

Schröder made people think he was a pussycat and a lefty, but his government set up the Hartz reforms which have helped make Germany's economy so strong recently. Merkel makes people think she's an iron lady and a capitalist, but she's starting to disappoint.

Germany had a lost decade sorting out the unification. But in that time it got its groundwork in place and so now it is working well. The fact that the rest of the countries around it are basket cases is not its fault. I feel sorry for the german people in some ways.

Like that thread says, compared with South Europe, we're an economic paradise.

Oh and yes the UK's growth rate is higher than Germany's at the moment.
