        I'm brewing up some of the stuff I bought last weekend.

        I'm beefing up the Wherrys with a bit of dry-hopping though...

          Careful. What are you using?

          PS Do you bottle the wherry or keg?

          PPS If bottling do you (or have you had) a batch that was particularly gassy?
          Knock first as I might be balancing my chakras.

            This is my 1st Wherry, but I've read the forums and the generally feeling is that the bottling priming sugar instructions are too generous, so I'll be adding half.

              Would like to know how that goes. If it's your first time with Wherry then consider brewing it 'au natural', as for a kit it generally doesn't need beefing up. The joy of beefing up for me comes when you take a cheap kit, dry hop and end up with something better than a kit at twice the price. For example taking a light ale, beefing up with Styrian Goldings and ending up with something that would give Badgers Golden Glory a serious run for it's money.

              Wherry kits I also find take the least amount of time to go through the first fermentation stage. Typically only 4 days. But I've then had issues with the end product being far too gassy. Per bottle they suggest half a teaspon, and for this one I would indeed back it off a bit to say a quarter of a teaspoon.

              But seriously, wherry is a keg only beer and should be barrelled. Why not treat yourself to a Hambleton Bard King Heg (with wide neck for easy cleaning) and do the next batch in a barrel for comparison.

                  It was suggested by someone in my brewing group, I've never done this before and it sounds an ace way of making it more unusual.

                  I've tasted Wherry and it wasn't as good as Festival so I'm going to experiment. For £9 it's worth it and I've got another that I'll brew normally if I don't like it.

                  I'm not into kegged beer as we don't drink it all in one go. I like to store it and keep brewing.

                      It's one of my most successful homebrews, to the point where people had no idea it was a homebrew. I've always kegged and not bottled though.

                      I've used the standard recipe - you must let me know what happens when you tinker about with it.

                      Great established boy's weekend gaming beer - they all want nothing less now a pint of Wherry is now almost acceptable as currency amongst my friends!
