My first job was at a syndicate of Lloyd's of London where the ladies were not allowed to wear trouser suits, if you were in the Lloyd's building you were not allowed to take your jacket off ( Ladies and Men), only exception was made when the air con broke down during a particularly hot summer and it was about 37 indoors.Comment

Two reasons - I like looking smart and my aspergic daughter gets confused if I am not dressed in, basically, a grey three piece suit with a tie. She thinks I am not going to work so wants to come with me to wherever I am going.
I wear my 3 piece from day one and casually mention to people in conversation why I have to come to work dressed like a mafia hitman etc. No one seems to be bothered either way.
Day one I always turn up in 3-piece with tie. For some contracts I wear that for the duration, rotating my suits every day. On the current contract (4 weeks in) this is the first day I have broken with convention - it's a hot day out so I've removed my tie. Starting this week, on Fridays (they don't really do dress down, but it seems people wear slightly scruffier trousers and shirts) I'll wear suit trousers and a shirt just so I don't have to worry about flying home in and suit and having to carry it back on Sunday, as I have so far.Comment

Last time I wore a three-piece suit to work, I was asked whether I was going to make it to the church on time.
Won't make that mistake of trying to dress smart for the users demo again.Comment

I worked with a contractor who wore a bow-tie (with a suit, not just the bow tie).
Wonder if he's on here? Initials CS, drove a four wheel steer Prelude. Round about circa 2000....Comment

Unless they've come back in fashion with the "mad men" effectComment
