I used to drink in The Royal in Guildford (which he owned so it was said). A real drinker's pub. A huge public bar and a tiny saloon bar. No poncy bottles of pils and a ciabatta in there, strictly 10 pints and a knuckle sandwich. I've heard it's closed.
There was another pub just down the road called The Wooden Bridge. It was similar but I believe that has been ponced now?Comment
