No she isn't.
She thinks I should have a permie job because:
a. I'd get paid holidays
b. I'd get sick pay
c. There would be a company pension scheme
d. She believes ther is greater job security
But the real ones are
e. She doesn't like me being away from home because she doesn't know what I do (get up to) in the evenings.
f. She wants to see a regular salary cheque because she suspects that part of my income gets diverted into whatever it is that I might be getting up to while I'm away.Comment

For the last 3 years I have been working in the home/office. It really is an office with the data cables, cabinet housed servers, custom furniture, client seating area etc etc
But the wife still can't get over the fact that in effect I am at home and she has to travel to work. Ergo, it is obvious that I should (on a daily basis):
1. Cook the dinner
2. Cut the lawn
3. Get some shopping
4. Make phone calls on her behalf
5. Tidy the house
6. Empty the dishwasher
7. Put various items to the skip
8. Go and do some more shopping
9. Water the garden
10. Hoover the house
11. Pick up photos, DVDs, etc etc
12. Put clothes in the washing machine
etc etc
She seems to think I do nothing but spank the monkey all day, drink beer and do a couple of hours work all day. She's right, but that's not the point. It's the perception from ANYONE, that while you "work from home" you are idling and can therefore carryout a plethora of mundane house chores, simply because you do not commute.
Normally, I say I haven't done them. When she comes goose-stepping into the house with her clipboard I just point to the new bathroom and kitchen in progress and say: "one has to work uninterrupted in order to pay for your extravagance...".
Also, getting up at 03:30am to start work has the desired effect also.
Bonus is you can go back to sleep at 07:30 for half the day...If you think my attitude stinks, you should smell my fingers.Comment

The more I read this thread the more I am convinced we are all married to the same woman.
Or does the standard model come pre-programmed?I am not qualified to give the above advice!

I remember the good old days of this site when people used to moan about serious contractor related issues like house prices and immigration. How times have changed!?Comment

My other half hates me being away from home...past baggage of his previous wife having an affair has made him a bit twitchy about what I get up to! Personally, I think it also has to do with the fact that he loses his cook, cleaner, laundrywoman and personal shopper for 5 days a weekComment
