I'd agree about the early Dave Allen, however he went off to the States and learned to swear, thereafter it was F this and F that.

My favourite early Allen was the one where Paddy goes to work on a building site....
The foreman says "Paddy we're doing a load if building work here so it's imortant that you know the difference between girders and joists".
Paddy says "Sure that's easy, Goethe was an existentialist whereas Joyce wrote from the point of view of the working masses".

Then again, Ronnie Barker. Different type of humour, never heard him swear.
