Yeah, so one sided it took nearly 4 years to get the feckers out of the country!

Solly Nancy but you are incorrect. The evil americans STILL HAD to show they had a case against these three guys. They had to PRESENT evidence of their wrong doing.

They DID NOT just rock up to Bow County Magistrates last Wednesday and ask for these guys to be deported on Thursday.

Again, another misunderstanding by yourself. The deportation laws these guys were deported under replaced the older treaty.

Stop being a fecken drama queen for fecks sake. These guys fecked up by trying to defraud an American company (and American shareholders) out of a large sum of money. The fact they havent been prosecuted in England should send more alarm bells ringing in that empty head of yours simply because its so EASY to get away with white collar crime in this country!

In fact, the SFO didnt bring prosecutions against these guys NOT because English laws werent broken BUT because English laws are so sh1t you could drive a bomb laden truck through the loop holes that allows people to carry out white collar crime without fear of arrest.

I couldn't give a toss about ours laws being so sh!t we won't prosectute them, I don't really care about the Natwest three, I don't give a toss about the Enron shareholders or Enron as a company.

You're competely and utterly missing the point repeatedly made - it's the legeslation I and many other have a problem with - the dogs breakfast of a treaty that we have ratified but the US never will, that allows the US to extradite our citizens to the US without having to show Prima Facia evidence:

"In legal proceedings in court, prima facie evidence refers to the burden on the prosecution to present evidence of all facts essential to its case before a criminal case can begin. "

while we stil have to. A treaty meant to quickly extradite terrorists, now being abused to extradite any one the US fancies. The crime : wire fraud, which basiaclly covers any email routed through a US server. You say I'm a drama queen - too fecking right, as of now every citizien of the UK at a minimum who sends an email falls under US jurisdiction with this bollocks.

This is one of the rare cases where outrage is spread across the entire political spectrum of the UK. You being a Kiwi might not get how we feel about things like that, but personally I'm not too happy about it and however much you may admire the US justice system for prosectuting white collar crime, I don't have anything like as much faith in the US legal system or in the general downward direction it's heading in.

No, I posted my thoughts on it, and some numbnut kiwi keeps missing the point made in the posts, repeatedly, so I have to keep explaining to him what myself, and most others have an issue with.

On the second point, what makes you think I care what legislation the Americans use - the old way would have been fine with me.

The spirit of the treaty was to aid the fast extradition of terrorists. Care to explain that in the context of this case? Or maybe since you're so in favour of it explain why we should be happy with a treaty the other side won't ratify themselves? You seem to think this is some sort of limited use legislation, but knowing the Americans (Lived there, married to one, lot's of American friends) I'm not so sure. Once the precedent has been set.

I'm sure this is just the tip of the iceberg, for example all those owners of gambling websites should be worried. That's if the CIA just doesn't kidnap them illegally in another country, shove them on an unlisted flight, fly them off to some 'friendly' third world country to be tortured and intern them in a foreign jail, without trial, or proof ... there is a bigger picture in all of this and it's not a pleasant one for those who once looked at the US as a model of democracy, freedom and human rights ...

This is all very "unleftwing" of you snaw. I agree with you entirely. Perhaps mailman can describe how the extradition process works between New Zealand and the US

LOL That's cause you've got me pigeonholed into your left wing, sandal wearing, tree hugging catagory. Like most people my personal beliefs vary a fair bit, I can be as right wing as the best of them on certain issues. Plus it's more fun debating your point of view when your in the minority (This board for me) than when everyone else agrees with you.

I'm pretty sure mailman is as 2 dimensional as he appears though ...

                      I wouldn't shag her with yours ...

Or in the immortal words of Bjron Minge (Great name)

"We are best in the world! We are best in the world! We have beaten England 2-1 in football! It is completely unbelievable! We have beaten England! England, birthplace of giants; Lord Nelson, Lord Beaverbrook, Sir Winston Chrchill, Sir Anthony Eden, Clement Attlee, Henry Cooper, Lady Diana. We have beaten them all, we have beaten them all. Maggie Thatcher can you hear me?"
"Maggie Thatcer, I have a message to you during your election campaign: We have knocked England out of the World Cup of football. Maggie Thatcher. As they say in your language in boxing bars around Madison Square Garden: Your boys took a hell of a beating! Your boys took a hell of a beating!"

                      Same as him
