    1900-1909 : Relatively benign
    1910-1919 : World War 1
    1920-1930 : Recovery
    1930-1939 : Great Depression
    1940-1949 : World War II
    1950-1959 : Recovery
1960-1969 : Relatively benign, social progress
1970-1979 : IMF Bailout, power cuts
    1980-1989 : Harsh economic readjustment
    1990-1999 : Relatively benign
    2000-2007 : Relatively benign
2008 - Current day : Credit crunch, economic readjustment.

If you take a look back across the decades you will see that there is always the possibility of a bit of chaos. Sometimes it is really chaotic. Sometimes it is really serious. You might even lose some money.

However you should console yourself that you live in a time during which you have access to luxuries and lifestyle that would make a Roman Senator envious.

Your life expectancy has never been better. Your health and education has never been better. You live in a free society with access to everything that 200 years of economic development has to offer.

Your doom-laden mindset is caused by the fact that you have lived through a relatively stable 17 year period after the end of the cold war and are assuming that that is the normal state of affairs.

You're just the shop stewards of the modern age, justifying your existence and feathering your nest on the back of other people's hard work.
While you're waiting, read the free novel we sent you. It's a Spanish story about a guy named 'Manual.'

I can live with that though I do not try to justify my existence

You've completely missed my point. In the past Britain had more resources than it does now to fix problems (captive markets in Empire, Empire resources, a strong manufacturing industry).
My question is how are we going to pay off this massive debt this time?
And I could turn your argiument on its head - the fact that things have been relative benign economically for a century or more does not mean some Black Swan event will not happen.
          Hard Brexit now!

You never know what is just around the next corner. Maybe we can only live in hope that for you it might be an oncoming bus

              You completely missed my point.

I am saying the world is a hairy-scary place with chaos and uncertainty, death and destruction. Over the last 100 years there have been "events" that make the current situation look like chicken-feed.

The world is also full of mostly intelligent people, who cooperate and HAVE to be economic. It's not optional. People will find a way to earn a living, innovate and enjoy life.

How will it pan over the next ten years? I don't know. I could speculate but it would just be a bit of fun. But I am not concerned. Keep your eyes ( and mind ) open and stay light on your feet and you'll probably be OK.

How will we get out of debt? Why do we need to get out of debt? So we can continue to buy cheap goods from China that we don't need? The problems of this planet will not be fixed by consuming more resources.

And that ought to work very well for you......right up until they train enough janitors of their own.

What "MOD" job might that be?
Nope......have never had a "MOD" job, but I am sure I could get one if I wanted to.
                    Thanks for asking.

PS You still living on the allowance your wifie gives you?
