No it isn't. GT is not a casual game but a very finely crafted simulator which accurately represents how each car behaves.

I'm not saying you could jump into a car and drift, but you would be aware of the principles - i.e. balancing the steering against throttle, etc.

Still I guess you know better, that's why F1 drivers spend months driving on a video game.

The point is that this is for use on normal roads with traffic, kids and other obsticles. Its relatively cheap (and will be second hand) and it will be easily obtainable by boy racers who will rag it around at every available opportunity.
Lots of cheaper more obtainable cars around more suited to drifting. 200SXs can be had for very little.

This is a pipe and slippers car, not a boy racers car. No boy racer is going to spend £25K on a slow, slightly dull looking coupé. Not when their mates have a chipped turbo Astra that'll leave it for dust away from the traffic lights AND sliding all over the road in the twisties.
Will work inside IR35. Or for food.

You're really arguing that Gran Turismo will help you drive in real life?

You couldn't make cretinism of this level up.

Obviusly folks like SadGuru have plenty of years of ragging cars round tracks and rally circuits to call on. Will that be true of every boy racer who gets one?
And the Veyron for example is advertised as being capable of doing over 200mph - it's down to free will and personal responsibility of the person using it to decide whether or not to use it for that.

A few more barriers to ownership than a 25k Toyota!

Of course it can. It's a driving simulator, hook it up to a decent force-feedback steering wheel and what exactly is your problem? Driving line, drifting, over/under-steer, all these basic things you would not normally get to experience on a regular road.

Computer games have moved on rather a lot since your day I expect. Again, that's why F1 drivers train on them. They even had a TopGear episode where Clarkson used it to learn a track before driving on it.

I can think of several second hand cars for £25k or less which will do over 150 and were marketed on top speed. You're ignoring the point.

I'm not - the point I'm making is that this car is being marketed to drive in a certain way. A way that can be dangerous. In the same way that fast cars are marketed as being fast and driven my people in a dangerous way, so will these.
