Yep, I have a portfolio of 14 shares, mainly income based blue chips but a couple of punts on hopefuls which I'd like to see a value increase from, I am up about 8% in the last 6 months

Over the past 10 years the FTSE has still done better than property with dividends re-investedOriginally posted by sasguru View PostWe're talking real ways to get rich here, not Dim's fantasy land.Originally posted by Stevie Wonder BoyI can't see any way to do it can you please advise?

They used to say it was 11% P/A, but I think the last 10 years has pretty much pissed on that idea. I did my dissertation on the statistics of gambling, and of course the stock market was included.Originally posted by Jeff Maginty View PostDoes anyone know what sort of return the FTSE delivers on average per year? I guess that would need to include dividend income as well as any increase (or decrease) in the index? It has yes, but unless you got a fair number of ignots under your bed you can't invest in gold, you can only invest in people who invest in gold, they all gotta take their cutOriginally posted by MarillionFan View PostPrice of Gold has done better.Originally posted by Stevie Wonder BoyI can't see any way to do it can you please advise?

I also fully invest my ISA allowance each year, I also re-invest all the dividends and I may also top up non isa investments as well.
I don't worry about ups and downs and just stick to quality stocks, ie proven companies with great track records, I don't invest in companies if they do not pay dividends.
I don't do gold - they do not produce an income!"The budget should be balanced, the Treasury should be refilled, public debt should be reduced, the arrogance of officialdom should be tempered and controlled, and the assistance to foreign lands should be curtailed lest Rome become bankrupt. People must again learn to work, instead of living on public assistance." CiceroComment

Aviva, Rio Tinto, Vodafone, Glaxo, Diageo, all long term solid investments paying around 5% dividends each year, add in the value gains too and you can't lose in the long term*
I have a few speculative punts, bought Lloyds at 33p a share, now sitting ~53p a share, no dividends yet but will start to eventually pay when its paid off HMG
