In the last year I have been in & out of 2 hospitals far too many times & can say that whilst I had minor gripes with both, they are just that; minor gripes, the care has been very good. I do have BUPA via work & will use it if I need surgery but on a moral grounds to leave the NHS resources free for those who need

As with any large organisation there will be slackers & shirkers who tarnish the name of all, I do think that the NHS is a good thing that has been badly managed, unfortunately if any political party came up with a workable solution the opposition would shoot it down on principle of being the opposition
    Growing old is mandatory
    Growing up is optional

        Interesting Graph

How much more does the NHS need FFS ? 15% ?

I frankly doubt that it spends > £15bn on "responding to these issues". Linky?

The alternative of being left to bleed out on the pavement when you get run over by a car?

The alternative of watching your children due for the want of some antibiotics?

How far do you want me to go?

Platypus has already asked you about the first bold bit!
Yes ok some of out taxes/NI goes towards the NHS but it is not a direct contribution.

No link plucked the figure out of thin air!

but you say it does not spend 15 bn - all it takes is for one person to make a complaint of say ooh malpractice and then you will have a bill running into millions......

Oh I see. NHS is better than nothing, I think we can agree on that. But better than another alternative? Well I don't think we have time to debate that which has occupied politicians for decades.

Coming back to the point, after some miserable experiences with the NHS I subscribed myself to the BUPA heartbeat level 2 cover and it is excellent. Never did I have to wait for longer than a day for appointment/medical diagnosis. The caveat however is that you have to use NHS A&E for anything urgent/serious.
Don't mind NHS for emergencies its just everything else they're useless for !

This I think is the major problem. Anyone who criticises is seen to be having a go at those poor, hard-working angels.

BTW- like I said my Mrs is a nurse.....
