She may grow out of it ...

In olden days children used to play outside after school for a few hours, and they just could not get enough of it. Now many prefer computer games.

It's a tough one that - 9 should only be puppy fat which will fall off in no time but if Gran is giving out treats like there is no tomorrow, it's hard to deal with it

On the plus side it won't be too long before she is concerned with how she looks and will want to look good but that could lead to issues with eating.

I don't envy you, hard to have a happy medium with girls.

Ugh God - the pair of them eating those God awful stinking Doritos. I'm sure Social Services wouldn't be too impressed to see him munching on a Dorito almost as big as his head but.... nevermind.

at weekends (and evening when they get lighter) i do as much outdoor activity as possible with her.

what also worries me is the lack of structured exercise at school - she needs to run round the school field in the mud n snow

twins are 11 this year - in last 18 months they have becoming a tiny bit wider than I would like. I got them into swimming club which they do 3 days a week and have cut out chocolate. the always have unlimited fruit.

the good news is that at this age it can be dealt with as they grow - the object being to increase height but keep weight the same.

I recently saw the 1963 film version of "lord of the flies". the "fatty" was like a "normal" child today - the majority of the kids looked starved by todays standards.

But by the way it is due to eating meat filled with cheese that goes in a microwave along with a sedentary lifestyle due to not working and watching Jeremy Kyle all day.

So in other words they're just too lazy to cook proper food

Nothing like a good generalisation.

I got fat because I was brought up on the myth that you have to eat three meals a day. I have now stopped and at best eat when my stomach grumbles and probably one meal a day i now only eat small portions. This morning I weighed I at 17 stone 5lbs and am down from 21 stone 4.

Food today is far to high in calories. So it's easy to hit your limit in one meal.

Its pointless talking about vegetables because junk food has addictive qualities that make your body crave more of it.

Wow one meal a day I eat at least 5 spread out through the course of the day

And many more have two working parents who are expected to spend an hour doing homework with them. There isn't time to go to the park for a couple of hours as well.

live in company hotels on a bunk beds 2x1m away from their families for months and years ... and when there is a child both parents have to work to support the family ...

Aside from the size of the bed doesn't that describe an awful lot of jobs in modern Britain?
