I've signed up for the Gran Fondo Milan San Remo so I'll be back on the Tacx VR again when I get home.

      what does this bit entail:

" 1 The AMATEUR MILANO-SANREMO is open to all the F.C.I. licensed amateurs and other associations in agreement with the event as well as all the foreigners who belong to bicycle federations or similar associations to which they are regularly enrolled."

Erm, for me, practically speaking, it means I have to show my KNWU racing license.

Simple reason; people with racing licenses have had medical clearance, which is a legal requirement in Italy since various footballers fell over and died of heart attacks.

I'm not sure whether you really need the license if you have the medical certificate.
