    Buying my Merc in Nov last year, after the px bit which I know was realistic, I got a further £1400 discount off the £9500 remaining value. And it included road tax until Aug 13, 9 months worth.

      Nope, they don't - you are 1st owner unless they say otherwise.

      Bought a car for cash end of last year from a main dealer - got 7.5% off list when another dealer down the road would not offer any discount.
      At the time, even the online brokers were only offering 5% off list.

      Also got a free set of mats, but they turned out to be grotty dealer branded and not the proper ones.

        Some dodgy ones do but they are working to a different model. The two I mentioned get fleet discounts on most models as they put through lots of orders. The car is registered to you and it's supplied by a main dealer to your specification. You will not get a fleet discount by walking into a main dealer as a one off buyer.

          Just bought a car on ebay last night for cash. Listed as having a full years MOT. When I pinged the seller asking when I could collect I got a response saying they needed to book in in for an MOT

          Another SY01 ebay **** up.

            Then went to Ford to look at the Fiesta. Test drove it - yeah, like it marginally better than the Rio. When they ran me through the figures for the colours/spec I'd consider, not only was it 3k more than the Rio (ok, I guess you pay for the brand), but they would also not budge at all from the RRP. Then they started pushing finance deals. Uhm, hello? I'm not happy with your inflated prices, but that sure doesn't mean I can't afford it. Also, on finance I could get a (marginally) better deal. But, yeah, don't want finance. What makes them think I'd be any happier with the price on the basis of only paying 8k up front? You're still demanding over 15k for a not-at-all exciting small car! (automatic, since slightly more pricey than the normal offers).

            Anyway, I didn't buy. I did ask both dealerships about ex-demos, but - surprise - none available.

            Went home, checked autotrader, can get a 62-reg black auto Fiesta for under 10k with 2-5k miles on it.
            I guess that's what I'll do then.

            So, any recent car-buying experiences? Anyone managed to negotiate much on a cash purchase? Car dealerships really that much keener on pushing finance than cash-buyers?
            Dont limit yourself to a specific dealer in your area. So, if wanting a Kia, phone 10 or 20 around the country and see what deal you can generate between them.

            Getting different dealers locally ie Kia v Ford v Skoda may get some movement but not as much as compared to the same dealer nationally. You'll always find one dealer in the group who isnt up to his target so will negotiate that little more.

            Dont always expect £££££££'s discount over and above what the dealer gives. If they cant move on money, look for other ways to get a better deal ie free 5 year servicing, speccing up a vehicle or next model up for the same price etc.

            Dont fall into the trap of getting a discount up front then paying a large finance deal.

              I was hoping for something like this, but was pretty appalled when Kia were saying that not only did they have nothing other than a few rubbish metallic paint colours in stock, they also wanted me to pay extra for those. Same with the 3-door vs 5-door - I didn't come for a 5-door, so if they can't get me a 3-door surely they're going to have to make me a good enough offer on the 5-door if they want a sale! But maybe they just weren't desperate enough to make that sale...

              Definitely won't, I always look at the overall price. I do wonder how many people fall for that though considering how much finance deals are pushed in car sales. :-/

                    No. I'll give them a chance to compete but I would be surprised if they could.
