Swimming is much easier the faster you get! You create a bow wave you can breathe into!
Of cpurse you have to get your body flat, strong core, toes pointed, kick from hips, arm timing correct(i.e. almost catch up), hands pointed with water entry correct, catch the water, elbows high, breathing to side, forehead in the water and probably another 20 things I have missed that Dallas will remind me of....
