Ah yes, we'll all go to the magic skills tree and pick a few more off shall we? And also while we are in the forest of magic trees, we will take some home from the magic housing tree and a school for the children from the magic schools tree.

It's not that easy for many people. Re-training to any decent level requires money and then you'll be at the bottom of the pile for chasing jobs because of the lack of experience. Normally, I agree with the relocating thing; but I also understand that for many people such a thing isn't done quickly or without great upheaval to a family.

They shouldn't have state pensions. Of course, that would only be possible if the gov weren't continually devaluing our money.

They're only there because they're just so damn tempted to raid, and of course, the government can't resist the above.

Have you looked at the NHS pay-bands for nurses for example? (Pay for nurses - NHS Careers). Firefighters (non-manament)? (Firefighter: Salary and conditions | Prospects.ac.uk)

No doubt there are also many grossly overpaid public sector workers, but the majority hit by this rarely make it to 30k/pa.

Tough tulip, he shouldn't have trained as an electrician if there was no work there.

I think you are being idealistic.

Wow, you must be rich being able to predict now exactly what skills are required 15 years hence.

Ah, right, because it doesn't come on a silver platter, we should all just sit around hoping that work picks up again. Maybe plant some magic job trees.

While that poor electrician's business is not making any profit, he might just be better off looking at low-end permie maintenance jobs. You know, rather than expecting the rest of the nation to subsidise his income.

There are always options. They're just not always all that comfortable.

15 years is plenty of time to save up money in order to retrain if required.

You think it's appropriate to put all your eggs in one basket? We're no longer in an economy that can support one-trick-ponies.
