Regardless of how you paid using Paypal your credit or debit card company won't be liable simply because you put a middleman - Paypal- in the middle of the transaction. Therefore you have to reclaim the money using Paypal.



Why didn't you set up a proper Paypal account? It's not difficult.

I did. PayPal was acting up and giving errors so I did it this way as a workaround.

Visa debit cards offer some protection like credit cards against unscrupulous sellers.

However as he paid using Paypal and was too stupid to set up a proper account he got done as now he can't raise a dispute with Ebay to get the money back.

Sellers expect you to pay them within 24 hours so if Paypal servers are down it's best to wait as you have found out the hard way.
