In a hurry, can someone please advise...to use 3G on a tablet do you have to subscribe to a network as per mobile phone, or is 3G picked up automatically ? Sorry if an obvious question.
TIA.

Vodafone does the best 3G for London I reckon. I'm on the business data plan for 3G with 5Gigs / month (not sure if you can still get that but its around £25/month). If you go non-business route I think it costs around £15-20 per month and the max on vodafone you can download is around 3 Gigs. You get a USB dongle with a SIM card in it, the SIM card can be taken out and inserted into a PC or even an Android tablet (I know because I switch the SIM around sometimes and it works fine.)
I purchased the initial release of the Amazon Kindle e-book reader, the one with the keyboard, and it had 3G built in. I can use it anywhere in the world without paying a penny.
