You waited until the kid was 15 before getting a job? My mum was single when the old man died and she worked two jobs from when I was 4, my brother 9 and sister 11. I grew up a typical latch key kid. Nice to have the option for the first 15 years.

My old mum was proud and would never except handouts or benefits, instead got on shank's and grafted. But each to their own moral code.
