Me me me, what car I'm buying myself today, what I'm studying this week, what house I'm buying for my burgeoning property portfolio now.

Oh shut it you silly, dull, little man.

Oh OK fair enough - and if you have interacted with or looked after either or both 24/7, you've loved every minute of it?

I've not had to look after both ( youngest is 5 months) 24*7 for extended periods no. Having said that, I've also not outsourced either of their care to nanny's as the wife doesn't work.

              Well then, count yourself lucky.
And it's rather silly to make judgements about people who have different arrangements.
Looking after kids for even a whole day is energising, good fun, inspiring, onerous, tiring and frustrating all at the same time. I'll take any help I can get.

sas is a cretin, but unfortunately right here.

My wife quit contracting to become a full time mother a few years back. It's a tremendously tricky, hard, yet rewarding job. I sail blissfully past in life, doing all the fun stuff with them, the homework, the reading and playing, and she does all the important stuff.

However, I spent the entire summer with them this year, no electronics, no work, nothing but the kids and, well it's fair to say I come back from the 6 week holiday needing another. Tough work that I think men should steer well clear of. The wife discusses parenting with lots of other professional women who have stopped their career for kids and it's common for them to say that just talking to kids all day long tends to make your brain mushy, so they actively seek each others company during the day to make it go by easier.

I cant explain how much stay at home women shot up in my expectations after the summer with the kids...

I couldn't retire, just couldn't, I would have to have something on the go, a building project, some new animals, whatever, I just couldn't mooch about all day doing nothing.
