Why is there a tendency for IT geeks to be big headed for no reason whatsoever?

Apologies for putting this thread back on track, but...

I am a .net developer, i don't profess to be the best, but there is an attitude of dick-swinging amongst most devs i have met. Many i have (and currently) work with are constantly trying to prove they are the best dev in the world by using "technology for technology sake" to appear better than everyone around them. I am currently contracted to a large retail company, the work is well paid and a good environment, but it isn't really challenging, any decent graduate could do much of the work. But there is one dev here who is constantly trying to challenge peoples work, make a huge point of bugs found (except when its in his own code). It is .net development, it isn't rocket science, and if these devs were as good as they thought, then they wouldnt be wasting their talents at a supermarket.

IMHO these people who have these attitudes are masking their lack of ability by an air of arrogance and using niche technologies that they know they will be the best at as noone else will be using them

I think its down to the type of people who would be big headed not having the basic social skills that would reign this type of behavior in, they are good at what they know so they assume they are good at everything

Why is there a tendency for cuk posters to believe anything sasguru says?

If he posted the sun would rise in the morning I would get up to check .

But what would an average code monkey like you know about those skills?
You've never built anything substantial. You've tinkered with someone else's macros.

No decent engineers in the SAS space.

Your attempt at simplifying it all to "coding" shows your lack of info.

Interesting. Does this include suggesting you are much better than anyone else on the team, including your superiors? Does it include suggesting everyone else on the team knows nothing, and you continually put them in their place, but strangely never seem to be promoted to take advantage of being that much better?

Ok, I think we have one. Quite close by...

You're conclusive proof that idiots always get hoist with their own petard.
No engineers in the SAS space, plenty of applied mathematicians.
I doubt you're an "engineer" anyway, your use of the term shows you don't know what it means.
What a prize cock you are, to be sure.
                  Hard Brexit now!

I think that conceited people are generally quite obtuse and socially unaware. If they picked up on what people thought of them (i.e. if they were normal and got the social signals) they would moderate their behaviour accordingly.

Think of "the pub bore" and you get my drift.
...my quagmire of greed....my cesspit of laziness and unfairness....all I am doing is sticking two fingers up at nurses, doctors and other hard working employed professionals...
