And that is when you bring in the jack of all trades who can solve those issues.

I have always found on a large scale development project, the strongest developers have specialised in a single stack.

They are given the most challenging apects of a greenfield development project.

I agree, there is always an aspect of a project that requires for instance adding web services to a legacy backend, however I have found a company may hire the odd contract developer to work on this aspect. The developer also tends to be pretty weak when discussing subjects such as IOC and DI and detail. The jack of all trades tends to be a bit of a hacker and this is normally refelected in the rate they are paid.

Yes, having first blagged their way in somehow.

Not at all. On my CV I have listed my career to date, which has to include the older technology stacks that I have worked on.

I have clearly mentioned dates on the CV.

I do not do this, like a number of CVs I have seen:

        C++: 5 years
        Java : 4 years
        C#/.net 5 Years

I have never tried to mislead on my CV.

          .
All very honourable. Now show me a job advert that doesn't try to mislead.

You have obviously experienced the full panoply of developers. Well done.

Bollocks to it all. I've no mortgage and a war chest large enough to bail out Greece.

I shall stick to my guns and do the job I was hired to do, which incidentally I would do to a very high standard.

As for Mr Bob and his seniors they can take it or leave. Screw them!

                P.S. Wot's a technology stack when it's at home?

On the subject of technology stacks and tulips. Went to a meeting with the big wigs at clientCo.

I'm refering to IT Director level of tulips. The meeting was to discuss a customer issue regarding a JVM error.

The two contract devs in the meeting knew those tulips didn't have a clue what JVM stood for, in which case tulips directors should stay quiet. But no, one tulip decided to speak up and said "I didn't know the customer was using VM Ware". Us two devs decided to stay quiet and the whole meeting continued along the lines of "why are they using VM Ware to run the software".

                    Hilarious!

When I was a kid & asked my Mam "What should I do?" she always used to say - "Take off your sock and piss in your shoe"

It didn't matter what I was asking about - that was pretty much her stock answer.

Hope it helps you as much as it used to help me.
